My Birthday

Better late than never right?
I spent my birthday with my family at Queen Wilhelmina State Park & Lodge.
We went hiking and ate at the lodge. It was a gorgeous day!

Far Above Rubies

Emilie completed most of unit 6, still will have a few more archery lessons, carving a canoe, notebooking states, and Texas history. Notebooking the states and Texas History will be a year long project. She has moved on to unit 5. She seems to have an interest in the nursing projects, but if you ask her she will say she doesn't want to be a nurse. I"m okay with that.

I'd really like her to blog about her lessons. I think "Educating Emilie" is a cute name for a blog, but she doesn't have an interest in that, which is strange since she loves being on the computer.

She says she can't remember what she is suppose to be learning/reading; I know I'd get the same response if
she was in PS so I'm not that worried. Although I am having her do more reports, notebooking/scrapbooking for this unit.

She has become much more self directed and is very conscientious and diligent to work in each subject area everyday.

The Soul of Spiderman

We are fans of Spiderman movies in our home. The Soul of Spiderman is a great book to pull out and discuss scenes form the movies with your kids. Also is a super easy daily devotional for Spiderman fans. If child has watched the movies they are old enough for this book. I thin kit would be great for a boys sunday school class, Youth group messages, combined with a youth group movie night.
I'd like to thank Regal for provide this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Rewards of Simplicity

I think the message of simplifying our lives is very needed in society today. I really tried to give this book a chance, going back again and again to read it, but it never got any better. This book is slow, wordy and didn't keep my interest. I can not recommend it.

I'd like to thank Bethany House for providing this book in exchange for my honest review.

What Happens When an Ordinary Girl Meets an Extraordinary God

Paperdoll has a great message needed for girls and women of all ages. "Jesus never taught that our worth as a woman is based on our background, our education, our race, our martial statue, our appearance, or our career. We are worthy simply and amazingly because of Him. And in Psalm 45:1, God tells us He's enthralled with our beauty."

(your beauty) " encompasses the internal and the external-your heart, your imagination, your emotion, your intellect, your compassion, and your sincerity. He happens to think you're beautiful, worth saving and worth loving."

I love Ms. Lloyd's message, my only negative comment is she is very wordy to make her points which makes the book drag.

I'd like to thank Regal for providing me book to review in exchange for my honest review.

New Girl In Town-Nancy Rue for Teens

Mrs. Rue enters high school and explores bullying to the extreme, teen depression, and the need to fit in.

Main character Laura moved to a new city, starts a new school and feels completely alone and out of place. This book was a real tear jerker for me because I experienced many of the same feelings when I was in high school 25 years ago.

I don't think adults realize the stress teens deal with and the devastating effects it has on young people, emotionally, physically and spiritually. New Girl in Town delves into these dark areas that adults tend to ignore in themselves and in their teens.

New Girl in Town is a book for high school age girls as it touches on more grown up themes. I'd like to continue the series to see if I'm right in who I believe Laura's secret admirer is and how the girls in "group" open. bond, and develop their friendship.

I'd like to thank Zondervan for providing this book for my personal and honest review.

Today's Doings

We have speech class this afternoon. The girls are to do a reading or recitation up to 1 minute long. All the girls are doing poems.
Bella has been practicing aloud with me for a couple weeks. The older girls, I've not heard them yet. So hope they can get it together by this afternoon!

My mom and her GFN ( Good Friend Nancy) came up yesterday to pick up my gramma and take her back to Austin for the month of November. Mom and gramma will come back for Thanksgiving, and then go back. My mom runs a baking sweat shop ( not really) in November. She will be putting my gramma to work baking up thousands of cookies for the annual Lone Star open house.

The girls and I will go down the second Friday of December and help set up and serve at the open house. It is fun, the girls really enjoyed helping out last year.

Anyway back to today. After speech class, we have a short meeting for the film club, then we will be going to my gramma's to visit for a while. We might have time to go the library, but I'm not going to stress, I mean it, no stressing.

Not to late!

YUG! This morning for some reason it dawned on me that I once again I am late in starting to plan for the holidays. WHAT? You may ask, well, I'm sure I'm not the only one who says every year that I'm going to start early, involve everyone and actually enjoy the holidays rather than work, stress, and fuss.
This 12 Week Holiday Planner is just the thing to keep me on track. Only I"m starting a month late, ( shhh).

Each week has a list to things to plan, work on,or purchase. And not just Christmas either, but Thanksgiving as well. That is a real bonus. Is it just me or does Thanksgiving seem to get pushed aside? We are all so focused on getting and giving at Christmas, that we often fail to slow down at Thanksgiving to be thankful and worship the One who gives us all things.

Anyway, gift ideas, crafts for the kids and family, a Holiday journal, meal planner plus some recipes. Buy once and use it year after year.
